Connecting your TD accounts to Boreal

TD is often where people keep the accounts they use constantly: a primary chequing account, a savings buffer, one or more credit cards, and sometimes borrowing products that shape monthly cash flow. Connecting TD to Boreal through Plaid helps pull those moving parts into a single place so you can see the whole month instead of piecing it together manually.

The key point is that Boreal is there to read, not act. It can look at balances and transactions for insight generation, but it cannot send payments, move cash, or update anything in your TD profile. Plaid handles the credential step, and Boreal never receives your online banking password.

What Boreal shows you

Once connected, Boreal turns TD account activity into something easier to understand. Instead of checking transactions line by line, you get automatic categorization, a clearer view of recurring expenses, and a better sense of whether the month is trending the way you expected.

That is especially useful when spending and borrowing are spread across more than one TD product. Boreal is built to show the relationship between inflows, card activity, and transfers without asking you to maintain a budget or keep your own spreadsheet up to date. You connect the accounts once, and the app keeps doing the sorting and summarizing for you.

If one TD account covers household bills while another holds savings for near-term goals, Boreal helps you read those tradeoffs together. You can see when recurring costs are taking up more room, when savings contributions are slipping, and when your overall cash picture looks steadier than the transaction list suggests.

Typically supported account types

• Chequing accounts typically used for deposits, payments, and everyday cash flow.
• Savings accounts that hold short-term savings or operating cushions.
• Credit cards that help show recurring charges and spending changes over time.
• Lines of credit when Plaid supports that particular borrowing account.
• Investment accounts when the specific TD account is available through the connection.

How syncing and reconnection work

After you link supported TD accounts, Boreal keeps checking for newly available balances and transactions through the connection. There is no guaranteed refresh schedule because timing depends on the specific TD product and on Plaid’s access path.

TD can occasionally require Plaid to renew authentication before new data continues flowing. When Boreal asks you to reconnect, signing in again restores the supported import while the connection remains read-only.

Security and privacy

TD connections in Boreal are read-only. Boreal can review financial activity for insight generation but cannot take action inside the account itself.

Your credentials are handled by Plaid during setup and never stored by Boreal. Any financial data Boreal keeps to power its dashboard and insights is protected with AES-256 encryption.

If you no longer want the connection, you can disconnect supported TD accounts and remove your Boreal data. You remain in control of whether the data stays linked.

Connecting other Canadian institutions at the same time

Boreal is not limited to one institution. If you want to connect RBC and TD accounts in one app, RBC can appear alongside your TD accounts, and CIBC can be added in the same Boreal view when your everyday banking spans more than one institution.
